Before we actually start to practice, I will want to get a health history from you–specifically so I can be aware of any issues that need to be taken into account as I begin to develop the right Yoga program for you. I would also like to do some preliminary evaluations to measure things like range of motion and strength. Again, this will assist me in personalizing your routine–and also allow us to identify some benchmarks we can use to gauge your progress over time.
Typically, I help my students: increase strength and flexibility, reduce stress, eliminate pain caused by stress, increase productivity, enhance energy and stamina, improve mental health and well-being, and achieve a balanced state of body and mind.
My approach with semi-private clients is essentially the same thing I do with private clients. Before we actually start to practice, I will want to get a health history from each participant–specifically so I can be aware of any issues that need to be taken into account as I begin to develop the right Yoga program for each individual.I would also like to do some preliminary evaluations to measure things like range of motion and strength. Again, this will assist me in personalizing the routines–and also allow us to identify some benchmarks we can use to gauge your progress over time.
When working with multiple participants, I will need to structure sessions that will work for all participants. I will give specific modifications or instructions to account for individual needs, but the overall session will not be as personally focused as a private session would be.
Private Lessons
The ideal way to be introduced to Yoga is in a private class with your teacher. This not only ensures that you will be getting the level of attention you need as you launch your Yoga practice, but it also means that the instruction will be tailored specifically to you—your body, your goals.
On any given day, the starting point for a Yoga practice is always determined by the needs of the student and not the teacher. This often makes learning Yoga in class situations more challenging since the teacher must adapt the lesson to the group. Of course, good teachers can successfully create a class environment where each student feels comfortable in safely moving at their own pace. But personal instruction is still the most effective approach.
Semi-Private Lessons
Semi-private lessons (usually with two or three students) can be a great alternative to privates. There are several reasons why people choose to go the semi-private route:
-- The cost of a session can be divided among two or three participants.
-- Friends who take the classes together can help to motivate each other–both to attend class and to practice in between classes.
-- You still get a lot of individual attention, but can also learn from observing adjustments and corrections given to your fellow practitioners.
